FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is your COVID protocol?

The safety and well-being of our students are still a top priority. Our name is HomeSafe after all. We will continue to operate our Behind the Wheel lessons following the guidelines and with the proper protocols in place. At this time mask-wearing is optional. (updated May 2022)

  • HomeSafe is using clean seat covers and sanitizing/wiping down the steering wheel and other controls before and after each use/student.

  • HomeSafe will consider student’s individual requests or needs for additional protocols.

  • HomeSafe will provide a waiver/hold harmless Covid-19 document that must be signed by the student's parent/guardian prior to the lesson.

What’s the process for getting my driver’s license

First Step: Get your learner’s permit (if under 18 years of age you must first complete a Driver’s Education course)

Next: Once you have received your learner’s permit, you need to schedule your 1st Behind-the-Wheel Training appointment with a DMV Certified Driving Instructor.

California law requires 6-hours of professional training, and 50-hours of practice with your parents or adult guardian(s), including 10 hours at night. This is the minimum.

In actuality, students should drive as many hours as possible. Students will be more successful (safe), the more experience they can obtain.

Finally: When you have completed all of the above, you may make an appointment at the DMV to take the final driver license test. For most up to date info please visit the CA DMV website
